Summarizing, the combination of LifeAlert, which she used within minutes of the stroke, fast ambulance service with LifeAlert's protocol for finding her housekey and where in the house she was, readiness in the ER, and use of tPa.
The level of caring about patients was underlined for me when I heard back via Twitter from the chief of Emergency brain imaging that he was happy about her outcome.
I would emphasize that having standardized processes for stroke should be part of an overall development of what is called "lean" that has been adapted from manufacturing in the last several years. It's a poor word but a good way to revitalize management and staff to make health care more effective -- and it actually tends to reduce costs.

Great story! I completely agree with you Karen. John Toussaint is a dedicated lean leader who has been instramental in paving the way for a better future within healthcare. Hospitals in Jacksonville FL such as, Mayo Clinic, have been implementing lean techinques for a few years now and continue to make positive strides forward as well.
Lean methodologies can be applied to any business sector and I encourage every person to educate themselves on this topic. After you learn how to think lean, your life will never be the same.
