Design of experiment (DOE) : is a Systematic Set of Experiments which permits one to evaluate the effect of one or more factors and interactions of factors to process output (Y)

2k Factorial: Usually referred to as full factorial experiments. It is the experiments, where all combination of the levels of the factors are run, k in 2k denotes the number of factors being investigated in the experiment.

Response Surface Method (RSM) : is type of Experimental Design that investigates the curvature of the response surface. They achieve this by using a quadratic regression equation rather than the linear form of the regression equation used in factorial designs. There are various types of response surface design including the Central Composite (CCD) and Box Behnken designs.

Brainstorming : is a group creativity technique designed to generate a large number of ideas for the solution of a problem. There is a lot of brainstorming techniques to help us to do effective and creative brainstorming activity.

SCAMPER : a technique to help enhance creativity. SCAMPER is a checklist of idea-spurring questions Substitute? Combine?Adapt? Modify or Magnify or Minify? Put to Other Uses? Eliminate or Elaborate? Reverse? or Rearrange?

6-3-5 Brainwriting : is the technique of brainstorming that involves 6 participants who sit in a group and are supervised by a moderator. Each participant thinks up 3 ideas every 5 minutes. Participants are encouraged to draw on others’ ideas for inspiration, thus stimulating the creative process. After 6 rounds in 30 minutes the group has thought up a total of 108 ideas.

Affinity Diagram : Is a tool to help us organize ideas into grouping of similar thought or categories. Used to refine brainstorming and make it more sense and easy to dealt with.

Action Plan : is a list of action, details of activities to do the action objective with estimated execution date. This action plan to be used to monitor an action progress to ensure its completion.

Simulation : Sometimes physical validation takes long time and/or involved high cost. The alternative is simulation where the solutions being simulate using software.

Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) : A method for improved machine availability through better utilization of maintenance and production resources.

SMED : Acronym for “single minute exchange of dies”. SMED derived from the desire to changeover any process within minutes instead of hours. It also known as Quick Changeover (QCO)

Kanban : Literally translates from Japanese to signal or trigger where “kan” means visual, “ban” means “card”.Kanban is a visual aid to trigger action (production or stock withdrawal) and controls or regulates material flow. Kanbanis an ultimate tool to be used to transform Push system and Pull system.

5S : A “checklist cycle” for good housekeeping to achieve greater organize, efficiency and discipline in the workplace. 5S is stand for five phases: Seiri (sort), Seiton (set-in-order), Seiso (shine), Seiketsu (standardize), Shitsuke (sustain).

Kaizen Sheet : is a one piece sheet that display before and after improvement of a project with few basic information of the project.

Pugh Matrix : a matrix that helps determine which items or potential solutions are more important or ‘better’ than others. The current solution in the first column is allocated a ’0′ in every category. If an alternative is better in that category it is given a ‘+1′, if worse ‘-1′
