Our sister site, Technology X, just posted a review on the new Sony Cyber-shot TX30 that I thought might be interesting to include here. This camera is not only the smallest waterproof camera available to the consumer but also, it is shockproof, dustproof and freeze-proof.

Included some decent shots but no, I didn't submerge it for an underwater shot just yet. The better half stated "like @#$%" was I going to place it on the bottom of the toilet bowl with a timed shot up at me smiling! Likewise, it has not time in the freezer as well.

Posts 1,233 This is one of the waterproof models I'm curretly trying to decide between. Thanks for the thorough review Les. I just have a small correction: It actually records interlaced full HD, not progressive. Here's the video specs:

Video Mode : AVCHD 60i: 24M FX / 17M FH(1,920x1,080/60i) / 9M HQ(1,440x1,080/60i),MP4:12M(1,440x1,080/30fps) / 6M(1,280x720/30fps) /3M VGA(640x480/30fps) 1,920x1,080@60i.

It probably does 1080p but this would not be full HD (1920x1080) but rather the lesser HD resolution of 1440x1080. AS far as I know no consumer level camcorder does 1920x1080p@60fps recording yet. Sony was talking about it but I'm not sure if they have implemented this with latest models.

To my knowledge the only consumer camcorders to ever allow for full HD 1920x1080p recording at 60fps was two models from the Sanyo Xacti series a few years ago: The VPC-HD2000 was a cult classic, whoever's got one of those is very lucky:

Posts 2,266 No... you are absolutely correct and amending tx! You may have observed my use of the word amateur in discussing my abilities throughout the article eheh.

Posts 1,233 I love that Sony. The review was far from being amateurish Les! I'm an HD video freak and I'm currently on the lookout for a reasonably priced all-weather camera. This Sony fits the bill nicely!

Posts 2,266 Trying to talk the wife into letting me dunk it for a shot. She says no way eheheh. Try to explain that it is waterproof!!! Dont know if I mentioned it but also got the Cypershot HX300 on its release as well....

Posts 2,266 For my specific needs, the 50x optical and 100x digital zoom with image stabilization is wonderful. On this camera, I can get a 100x picture with the camera only held in my hand...although its not easy. It is the site camera for piks though for the most part.
