Manufacturing Companies in Ahmedabad

Gujarat has emerged as an auto hub, owing to the business-friendly practices of the government, the ease of land-acquisition, the state's well-built road networks and infrastructure, and its commitment to develop as an industrial state. As a consequence, there are a number of new job opportunities for people living in and around Ahmedabad.

The success story of Gujarat as an auto hub started when Ratan Tata, who got fed up of the political intrusion in Bengal, shifted his multimillion Tata Nano project to the Gujarat. Gujarat had already been attracting a lot of attention and investments from national and international businessmen; the state leadership promoted the state as a 'business friendly' state, and this worked wonders for the state economy. Companies had to bribe officials in other states to facilitate the setting up of their operations, in Gujarat, the government officials adopted a proactive approach and contacted businessmen all round the globe, and asked them to consider investing in Gujarat.

Gujarat bagged the prestigious Tata Nano project, and this event demonstrated the business potential of the state to other car companies around the globe. Following this, companies invested more in Gujarat, creating a number of auto and related jobs in Ahmedabad. Today, the Tata Nano project is up and running in Sanand, just a few kilometers from the center of Ahmedabad, and along with the huge car manufacturing plant, a number of ancillary industries have also blossomed.

Car companies prefer Gujarat as a manufacturing destination because of the ideal conditions for business: while strong labor unions dictate terms to the industries in most other parts the country, Gujarat has never faced any major labor unrest problem. Also, the state has become the favorite destination for skilled laborers from all over the country, and so there is no dearth of skilled labor in Gujarat. The combination of friendly government policies, and the availability of ideal employees, has attracted many big companies to Gujarat.

General Motors had set up a car manufacturing plant in Gujarat way back in 1996, but others had not followed suit. But after Tata shifted its ambitious 'Nano' project to Gujarat, the government unleashed a marketing and publicity blitzkrieg through its various business meets, especially the Vibrant Gujarat events. Today, other car companies have followed suit and set up their manufacturing operations in areas near Ahmedabad, creating a number of new jobs in Ahmedabad.

Maruti, one of India's biggest car companies, is planning to open a car manufacturing unit in Gujarat. The car giant aims to produce 2 million cars annually. Peugeot is also planning to set up a plant in to manufacture mid-size sedans. After the Nano plant was set up in the state, 27 component makers also set up their operations in Gujarat and 15 more component makers are expected to set up their operations to meet the increasing requirements of the Tata Nano project.

With more car manufacturing projects lined up, it is expected that a number of ancillary industries will grow around the car-manufacturing sector, creating a number of new jobs in Ahmedabad. The realty sector in the state is also booming, owing the government spending heavily on roads, bridges and other infrastructure; this has also generated jobs for people living in Ahmedabad. Also, as a large number of professionals from other states frequently visit of live in the city, the hospitality industry of Ahmedabad has also received a much need impetus.
